I know that not everyone would read this blog unless they stumbled across it by accident or were directed through Facebook. So, does it mean I can't say my two cents on this Black Lives Matter movement that has spread throughout the world . . .
. . . and here in New Zealand too.
Look, I get it, okay? Anyone of color has had a pretty shitty past, ranging from being colonized, disenfranchised, sold for slavery, and criminalized. The same could be said for the disabled, gay, and everyone else whom society labels as not being part of the established 'norm'. All lives matter, period. Full stop, and all that. We are bringing about a new form of discrimination, where everyone is grouping themselves into 'us' and 'them'. Question is, who is 'us' and who is 'them'?
I live with a disability, have so since the moment I was created one cold night by mum and dad. However, I do not see myself as disabled per se, merely physically impaired and in need of a motorised wheelchair to get around.
Still, I matter. You matter. We all matter.
